I Don't Need It Anymore (Interlude)
Written by Christina Aguilera
0:54
Regrets collect like old friends
Here to relive your darkest moments
And all of the ghouls come out to play
And every demon wants his pound of flesh
But I like to keep some things to myself
It's always darkest before the dawn

it's probably the only interlude that I felt that it wasn't really necessary.

For real.

At least include the drums from Accelerate's intro, or just don't bother?

This is literally Sick of Sitting’s reprise.

SoS = Stripped Intro
IDNIA = Stripped PT2

Feels out of place for me, maybe before SOS, but not before Accelerate :scratch:

So I said it in the Dreamers' thread. This really needs to be after SoS and before Dreamer's to have any kind of real transition for Dreamers. The jump from SoS to Dreamers to FIL is so abrupt it's kind of jarring. I feel like this would lessen that and the "change is in the air" could help lead to Dreamers. But then there needs to be something else between Twice and Accelerate because that's pretty abrupt too.

Also, I do like this. It sounded like something when I first heard it and I'm still trying to figure it out as I'm typing... like it's really bugging me because I know I've heard this rhythm before. I will come back and post when I figure it out.

ITS YOUR THING. DO WHAT YOU WANNA DO.

That's what it reminds me of, the second part of this interlude. So glad I figured that shit out because it drives me crazy when I can't figure out stuff like this.

This one feels unnecessary to me. She should've fleshed it out more or something. Like, I don't get the point of it.

This was actually sampled in SOS. I don't get why it was placed so far from it.

Wish this was the formula for Sick of Sittin cos it could work as a full song. Weird intro for Accelerate though.

Okay I've been saying that there's no filler on this album and that's true of all the full songs, all of which I like, but this interlude just feels out of order on the track listing for me. The track itself is fine (I don't have a problem with its quality) but in terms of song order this is the only one on the album that feels like a weird fit where it's been put. Maybe it will grow on me but on my first few listens it just seems like a strange and disjointed transition in to Accelerate. The rest of the album all flows together beautifully so this stands out quite a bit for me.

What makes it more odd is that this interlude was clearly inserted at track 11 to provide a bridge from Twice to Accelerate, probably because Xtina felt those two songs don't flow together. So the whole purpose of it's inclusion here was to improve the flow of the record. But honestly, even though Twice in to Accelerate may not be perfect, I find that combination way less jarring than the transition from I Don't Need It Anymore to Accelerate.

I experimented with playing the Liberation intro then immediately starting Accelerate once it finished and IMO that combination works much better for the transition...but then that would mean moving Liberation away from the intro to the album, and I love it as a mood-setter, so I'd be reluctant to advocate that...so idk.

This is like Stripped Intro Pt 2 to slide us into Sexxtina. Also this interlude works well to explain that she doesn't need all the pain she expressed in Twice and is ready to f*ck it up and have fun (i.e. Accelerate). I think it works really well. Ties the sound of SOS better into the album too. I love it.

The placement feels off, but it's not a bad intro.

Would have been better before or after SoS. I didn't really need this interlude , but I skip most interludes anyways.

The placement before Accelerate is weird, but damn the soul in those harmonies.

Truly wish they’d have made a full song out of it

Yep. It just feels out of place within the album.

I like the production and don't mind the lyrics.. But what was that transition into Accelerate? :noway: They should have started fading the drums before the next track starts. It feels so chopped.
